Bridge Results January 2019

By The Numbers…

Our apologies – the blog suffered a caching issue with articles not posting to the home page.  Due to conflicting software updates that normally help balance incoming requests the blog became static.  With re-configuring, reinstalling, some bubble gum and plenty of hair pulling, we are back in action with the monthly updates.   On to the good stuff….

January bridge results and ACBL tournament stats posted strong numbers for the month with higher tournament tables than expected.   February is a short month so get in your games early and often!

Take look at OKlive, our new online bridge game!  Alpha v1.02 was launched last week with many new updates including tips and tricks, chat features and bug fixes.  Log into your member home page and select ‘Play OKlive Now’ from the top of the page.

Bridge Results – ACBL Masterpoint Tournaments

20,528 pairs competed in 370 ACBL Masterpoint sessions playing 4,440 boards in January.  How does this measure up?  The breakdown is 18,963 pairs in 309 ACBL Masterpoint Tournaments (minis) while 1,565 pairs competed in 61 combo tournaments.   Total ACBL Masterpoint tables of 10,264 for the month.  Check out our daily tournament schedule on the OKbridge web site or your OKbridge members portal.

Bridge Results – ACBL Leaderboards

Cathycat held the lead coming in first for the month at 70.77 masterpoints with Grand43 second at 63.96. Danb moved into 3rd position in the final week holding it for the month at 59.47 with Euposso and Ondrwyzr coming in 4th and 5th at 56.53 and 56.38 respectfully. Shen1 moved into 6th position for the month with Seadoo, Phyllisq, Joepucek and Janet rounding out the Top 10.  Both Joepucek and Janet came on strong in the last week of the month to break into the top 10.  We suspected there would be some surprises in the last week of the month and we were not disappointed.  Thank you to all the tournament players for keeping the game exciting.  Congrats to the Top 10 players for January, to those who made it on the leaderboards and to all that participated!

Visit the ACBL leaderboards in the OKbridge members portal for a complete list including last month, year to date, and more.

Tournament Satisfaction

ACBL tournament satisfaction for the month improved slightly in the last week to end 66% for the month. Noodle came in at 100% satisfaction, Knife a close second at 88%, Canooz at 82% and Merley  at 70%.   Our worst performing tournament director was the notorious and somewhat elusive ‘Can’t remember’ coming in at 32% for the month.  Removing Can’t remember from the calculations, the remaining tournament directors averaged 82% satisfaction for the month which is more in line with our baseline goal.  We appreciate receiving your survey results – keep them coming and please make sure to include as much information as possible.

Bridge Results – Player Performance Rating

OKbridge is the only bridge game with a comprehensive player rating system called Lehman Ratings.  Rated tables (competitive) are factored into a Lehman Player Rating.  Consequently, unrated (social) tables have no impact on the Lehman Player Rating.

Go to the FAQs (Lehman Rating System) in the OKbridge members portal for more information on our player rating system and how it is calculated.

Bridge Results – Table Crash Stats

303 tables were ‘crashed’ (table servers intentionally closed table during game play) to date in January.  21 players ranked ‘high’ to ‘extreme’ abuse registering 233 boards crashed where they were the offending party closing the table (as the table server) during game play.  This is down 21% from the previous month (December 2018) which is a step in the right direction, but we have a ways to go.   Consequently, these 21 players comprise 42% of the total table crashes during this period which is down significantly from the previous month.  We are always concerned with this stat and will continue to monitor and work with players reduce this number.

Please notify the table in advance and always finish a board before closing the table or leaving your seat.  It is never acceptable to intentionally close or leave a table during the game play.

Bridge Score Requests and Score Reviews

We received and adjudicated 124 score requests (pending boards) for the month of January.

If you are a victim of a ‘crashed’ table (resulting in a pending board), please go to  Pending Boards in the OKbridge members portal and request a score.  There is a process including an escalation to a certified director to review the pending board and score the board as if it had been played to completion.  This is a great opportunity to get redress but there is a limited time-frame to request a review (72 hours).

14 score reviews on completed boards were received and adjudicated to date.  If you played a board to completion but would like the score reviewed, please go to your Completed Boards in the OKbridge members portal and submit your request.  There is an automated process with escalation to a certified director to review the board as needed.  Similar to the process for uncompleted (pending) boards, there is a limited time to request a review of 72 hours.

Finally, there are no pending board review requests outstanding as of 1/31.

Thank you for a great January and good luck, happy partners and great boards for February!
