Bridge Results – By The Numbers…

March 2019

Hard to believe we are at the end of the first quarter of the year!   In March increased our focus on conduct and ethics to make the game as fun and rewarding for all players while packing as many updates into OKlive as possible.   OKlive is still ‘alpha’ but we are making good progress on bug fixes and implementing member suggestions.  Our goal to move into ‘beta’ is May 15 and will update along the way.  All in all, we played 9,500 tournament tables in March and 29,000 for the first quarter – all live player action.  Good stuff.

From the front office……

OKlive Update

OKlive, our new online bridge software, is steadily moving through its alpha phase.  The two releases in March (alpha v1.04 and v1.05) include more user setting options for single click bid and play and confirmation bids and play (to reduce mis-clicks and undos).  Additionally, improved messaging on closing/leaving tables, and tournament controls have been added.   Improvements to ‘claim’ functionality, default settings for new players and new ‘find partner’ / ‘previous partner’ are now available.    Log into your member home page and select ‘Play OKlive Now’ from the top of the page to see it for yourself.  We have open bug reports in progress and will have several important releases in April to address those.    Goal is to move to ‘beta’ this quarter with a target release date of May 15.  Will keep you posted…..

ACBL Masterpoint Reclaim Initiative

In a previous post we described our initiative to help update any player who has an incorrect ACBL number in their profile.  An incorrect number means our automated system cannot accurately report a members winnings to the ACBL.  Once we find and correct a members account we research back months, in some cases years, to reclaim every masterpoint won.  In March  we reclaimed 1,073.88 masterpoints for our members and it is a great feeling each time we find success.

Bridge Results – ACBL Masterpoint Tournaments

18,972 pairs competed in 369 ACBL Masterpoint sessions playing 4,428 boards in March.  How does this measure up?  The breakdown is 17,465 pairs in 310 ACBL Masterpoint Tournaments (minis) while 1,507 pairs competed in 59 combo tournaments.   Total ACBL Masterpoint tables of 9,486 for the month!  Check out our daily tournament schedule on the OKbridge web site or your OKbridge members portal.

Bridge Results – ACBL Leaderboards

Cathycat held the lead coming in first for the month at 78.99 with Aries at second at 66.72Euposso moved up into the 3rd position for the moth totals at 65.63 with Grand and Phyllisq coming in fourth and fifth at 55.79 and 52.33 masterpoints, respectfully. Shin1 jumped into 6th spot for the month with Tunafish, Margfn, Linpe, and Seadoo rounding out the Top 10.  While many mentioned here are not strangers to the Top 10, this is Aries first placement in 2019 and landing in at the second spot is a great way to make an entrance. Margfn and Linpe are also first-time placements on the 2019 Top 10 -welcome to you both.  Shin1 is back on the list in March in the same spot they held in January – nice job.   Congrats to the Top 10 for the month, to those that made it on the leaderboards and to all that participated!

Visit the ACBL leaderboards in the OKbridge members portal for a complete list including last month,  year to date, and more in the archives.

Tournament Satisfaction

ACBL tournament satisfaction for the month inched up to 70% just beating that of 68% in February and 66% in January. Canooz and Knife tied for 100% satisfaction each, Merley came in at 59% satisfaction, Starkist at 58% and Noodle at 40%.   ‘Can’t remember’ really improved in March hitting 100% satisfaction.  Congrats to Canooz and Knife for 100% satisfaction rating for the month!  As an aside, 70% satisfaction for the March is below our baseline goal of 80% but we have been seeing progress in that direction.  We appreciate receiving your survey results – keep them coming and please make sure to include as much information as possible.

Bridge Results – Player Performance Rating

OKbridge offers a comprehensive player performance rating system called Lehman Ratings.  Rated tables (competitive) are factored into a Lehman Player Rating.  Consequently, unrated (social) tables have no impact on the Lehman Player Rating.

Go to the FAQs (Lehman Rating System) in the OKbridge members portal for more information on our player rating system and how it is calculated.

Bridge Results – Table Crash Stats

388 tables ‘crashed’ (table servers closed table or player left table during game play) March.  19 players ranked ‘high’ to ‘extreme’ abuse registering 289 boards crashed where they were the offending party closing the table (as the table server) during game play.  This represents an increase over the previous month (February) and is moving in the wrong direction.      Consequently, these 19 players comprise 74% of the total table crashes during this period.  Thank you to those players who are working to improve this stat and overall we still have work to do.

Please notify the table in advance and always finish a board before closing the table or leaving your seat.  It is never acceptable to intentionally close or leave a table during the game play.

Crashed tables:  388

Skipped tables:  345

Score requests:  152

Review requests:  33

Bridge Score Requests and Score Reviews

We received and adjudicated 152 score requests (pending boards) for the month of March.  This is an increase over February’s 116 requests, and indicates more players are requesting a score when a table is crashed – and that is a good thing.

If you are a victim of a ‘crashed’ table (resulting in a pending board), please go to  Pending Boards in the OKbridge members portal and request a score.  There is a process including an escalation to a certified director to review the pending board and score the board as if it had been played to completion.  This is a great opportunity to get redress but there is a limited time-frame to request a review (72 hours).

33 score reviews on completed boards were received and adjudicated in March (up from 20 in February and 14 in January).  If you played a board to completion but would like the score reviewed, please go to your Completed Boards in the OKbridge members portal and submit your request.  There is an automated process with escalation to a certified director to review the board as needed.  Similar to the process for uncompleted (pending) boards, there is a limited time to request a review of 72 hours.

Finally, there are no pending board review requests outstanding as of 3/31.

Thank you for a great March and good luck, happy partners and great boards for April!
